Wendy's Welcome Wagon
What motivates us all to come out to the country and make our home here? Well that’s what Wendy's Welcome Wagon
wants to discover! This community is made up of some wonderful folks who care about
their neighbors and their surroundings, but it’s often challenging to get to know one another.ED AND DONNA BOLLHOEFER
Ed is originally from Indiana and did “time” in Denver and Donna is from upstate New York. They were drawn to this area because Ed has an autistic daughter who needed special schooling and he found it out here in the Valley. They purchased the beautiful yellow farm
house from a local developer in the 1980’s which is located on Deer Rapids Road at the intersection of Peach Orchard and have lived here year round since moving in. They enjoyed gardening and taking walks up the mountain and along the street. Donna can been seen with a
trash bag in hand picking up the debris as she takes her walk and volunteers her time at both the library and the museum.THERESA SPARLING
Theresa found this community by doing many “floats” along the river in her tube! She is from upstate New York, and then moved to Alexandria, and then Front Royal, and finally to Strasburg where her daughter purchased a home. Theresa’s place is one of the two modular
homes across from Edgewater Farm. As a new year round resident, she enjoys the outdoor activities with her daughter and grandchildren. And her days are spent in “top secret” government work in an undercover location in Warrenton. I believe she would be a great guest
speaker at our next picnic!RUSS SHAY AND DEBBIE SEASE
Russ hails from Connecticut, moving to Berkley, CA for grad school and moved back east to DC for a job in congress. Russ met Debbie while working in a conservation job. He used to fish in the North Fork and spend time at Harry Murray’s Fly Shop in Edinburg (a very famous
place for fishing folks and is still there) and decided to investigate property in the Valley. They found their special place in 1985, which is located on Forest Drive (entrance to George Washington National Forest) and haven’t regretted their choice! They continue to live in D.C.
and commute to the “cabin” on a regular basis. They are both avid gardeners and woodworkers, and continue to fish the North Fork for small mouth bass and trout. Russ has done his “stint” as president of the Road Committee around the time the new bridge was being discussed and he got the ball rolling so we don’t have to endure as many “rivered in” days!
